The iPad Mini 2 is currently being tested with a high resolution screen. That report sources inside a Taiwanese manufacturer of Apple who produce components of the iPad Mini. The 7.9 inch Mini iPad 2 would be about 324 pixels per inch (PPI) and have the same resolution as the current iPad 4.

Many are hoping already on an iPad Mini with a retina display. It was therefore a little disappointed that the small Apple iPad with a resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels announced. The new iPad Mini 2 would be get a resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels, double resolution as the first iPad Mini and the same resolution as the iPad with a retina display.

Because the iPad Mini has a smaller screen than the iPad, the pixel density is much higher. The iPad Mini 2 has than a pixel density of 324 pixels per inch, a figure much higher than the current iPad (264 PPI). The screen of the iPad Mini 2 is much more detailed than the current iPad, but if a human eye sees the difference, is hard to say.

It is still unclear when the new iPad Mini 2 appears on the market and if it is actually going to get a retina display. The rumor by different sources - including this Taiwanese manufacturer - confirmed and it is possible that Apple announced the iPad Mini 2 together with the new iPad 5, both tablets have a higher resolution.
