Google Maps updates with 'Faster Route' options

There are some of us who just can't seem to make the switch over to Apple Maps, and rely on the tried-and-true Google Maps app. A small but practical update came this week to the app that offers a 'faster route' option for directions.

Crowdsource & Traffic

Google has been my go-to map app for a while, since I just can't seem to get the hang of Apple Maps, not to mention its acquisition of Waze which made local crowd-sourced info on accidents and road closures.

The traffic info that has been present in Google Maps for a while now becomes more useful when using turn-by-turn directions, and if a faster route opens up, your route will be updated. What seems like a simple feature actually launches Google Maps higher into the realm of in-car GPS systems competitor.

As it continues to add features and navigational tools that just aren't available in other apps or platforms, Google Maps has a real chance of becoming the Rand McNally of smartphone maps.
